With the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 coming up, I caught an interesting piece aired this morning on the local NPR station.
Interesting article about the impact of 9/11 on this generation of military brats and coping. Hard to imagine dealing with a parent having 7 or 8 deployments to Iraq & Afghanistan. The term ”veteran” needs to be understood to include more than just the direct combatants as this group falls within my definition of veteran as well as the dedicated spouses. You can read it at: http://www.wamu.org/news/11/09/07/for_military_children_911_is_a_way_of_life
Thanks for pointing this out, Tim. (You can also listen to the piece by clicking on Play underneath the headline at the link).
The multiple deployments, still going on 10 years after 9/11, is an incredible burden for families of the service men and women – financially and especially emotionally. Yet this burden is being carried almost exclusively by less than 1% of Americans.
Phil:
It was after hearing the piece on the radio that I went back to find the piece and saw the printed article.
Hope all is well in your part of the world . . .
Right – I just pointed out the Play for the others.
I’m hanging in there. Want to retire, but not able to yet. It would be nice to travel some out of the country. After reading your ”dispatches” from Europe, however, I’ve ruled out Bosnia.

Nonsense. I saw none of the atrocities or other things you mention during my year in Vietnam as an infantryman – not committed by my unit or any other units we worked with. This is not a political blog. If you want to rant against war in Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan, go to dailykos.com or [...]

The Army announced a new (sad) record of suicides (32 total) among active duty army and army reserve personnel during the month of July 2011. I wonder how many Americans take notice of the loss of life from combat, accidental and suicides in our two wars . . .

I think everyone is waiting on someone else to get it started? 2010 was such a bust I’m not sure anyone would come even if we did have one in 2012. Who all’s interested? I’ll be more than happy to get it started if anyone want’s to go.
